The Crime Victims Rights Act requires that I provide crime victims with specific information, and if a victim requests, that I give a victim notice of any scheduled court proceedings and changes in the schedule. I am also required to consult with crime victims prior to finalizing any negotiations that may result in a dismissal, plea or sentence bargain, or pretrial diversion. Victims, in turn, are required to keep me and others involved in the process informed of current addresses and telephone numbers.

The Crime Victims Rights Act gives victims many rights in addition to the right to consult with me. The full statute may be reviewed here:

I encourage all crime victims to register with the free Michigan Crime Victim Notification Network  (MI-VINE). This service allows crime victims to use the telephone or internet to search for information regarding an offender’s custody status and register to receive telephone and e-mail notification when the offender’s custody status changes. The number to call to is (800) 770-7657.  Michigan's VINE website address is https://www.vinelink.com/#/home/site/23005  VINEmobile apps are also available for IOS and Android smartphones.
